Project three- screen printing on textiles workshop one

Aswell as simple traditional and digital techniques I wanted to look at some printing techniques that are often seen within surface design. This includes screen printing. As part of a workshop I was able to create a screen with my own pattern and combine it with already existing screens to build a pattern and overall experiment.

I created the artwork below, in black and white as this would be needed when transferring the design to the screen. As i knew it was only going to be one colour I focused on the linework and details. Therefore, I created this simplistic design with elements of the greenhouse to really capture more of Kew than just the plants.

Below shows some of the way i experimented, using different layers and colours to really build on the design. I really liked the process and found it interesting to experiment with some different printing
techniques. If i was to do this again and include it in my project, I would think about making the design borderless and therefore when printed won’t look as straight and cut off and therefore, would blend in with some of the other pattern elements.
