Project Three- Katie Scott Research
Katie Scott is a British freelance illustrator based in London. She is most known for her modern botanical style in which she uses digital watercolour to capture her inspiration which mainly consists of botanical and anatomy. Katie Scott is self taught and has no botany training, and instead started by creating plants from her imagination. This allowed her to work on her style before working alongside botanists to produce scientifically accurate drawings.
I chose to look at Katie Scott for this project as for a long time I have seen her as an inspiration. I love how she really captures botanicals in her own way, and yet still has an overall traditional feel. A great example of this can be seen below. Her technique and process has a modern style however, when she considers her composition and colours we can’t help but see this as a traditional scientific drawing.
Scott has worked with a range of clients from Nike to the New York Times and has used her work in a variety of wonderful different ways, tackling a range of different illustration genres.
